But that's just it! I DON'T just want Categories! I want categories, brand, and price range (using the previous screenshot) and in some cases I need more filters than that.

Just to get it right:
- You use a default category in the list view (car racks)
- You've selected the "car racks" category in the catalog filter plugin as root category

The attribute counts are now shown for the whole catalog because they are not limited by the selected "car racks" category in the catalog filter plugin. Correct?

Hello,
I am afraid i have to confirm this problem. Attribute counts are shown even in a category which has no product assigned.

This has been already fixed in master and 2019.07.x-dev and will be part of the next TYPO3 extension release.
