Typo3 is it worth it?

Post by nikki99 » 21 Aug 2019, 11:40

Hi there

A question/discussion for the Typo3 developers out there:

At my work place we create all websites with Typo3 (I'm a system engineer myself, but like to create websites in my spare time) and I tried to create a website with it the last few days. It looks to me as Typo3 has a lot of potential, but a very steep learning curve.

Is it worth investing this time into it or should I stay with easier CMS like ProcessWire and/or creating complexer stuff with Laravel, etc.

Thanks & Regards

That depends on your use case.

TYPO3 is the best enterprise grade Open Source CMS you can get but as you've mentioned, it has a steep learning curve compared to simple CMS systems.

So for simple CMS tasks there are better alternatives but we also don't recommend to try to create a CMS for complex projects by yourself. It's the same as for Aimeos in e-commerce: You need a lot of man power to do it right and custom implementations will sooner or later fail or become unmaintainable the more complex the projects are getting.
