How to get the 8 most popular categories at the home page ?

Aimeos doesn't count hits on each URL and you have to use Matomo or Google Analytics for that. Then, you can use their API to get the IDs from the category URLs that are viewed most often and use the catalog frontend controller to fetch the category details.
